“Constant communication with our principals and our point persons on site is the most critical process of our business. Thus, it is imperative that we get the platform which offers round-the-clock information access and sharing to help us come up with sound decisions whenever, and wherever we are,” said Capt. Victor Villanueva, President of Unitra Maritime Manila Inc.
Since UMMI’s inception, the company has been providing seasoned seafarers to 17 vessels under the flagship of its principals and is becoming the manpower provider of choice by other major players in the shipping industry. “Our company exerted all efforts to establish this good reputation and we cannot afford to lose our principals’ trust for the reason that we cannot address their concerns in a timely manner,” added Capt. Villanueva.
According to Pocholo Reyes, Managing Director of Wizardsgroup, most of small to medium-size enterprises in the Philippines are concerned about the perceived high cost of IT overhead and uncertainty whether the users, with limited time to acquire new knowledge, can fully maximize the use of platforms available today. This hesitation makes companies unaware that they are missing the opportunities to address the issues in their work processes, which translates to huge losses and missed prospects. “And we at Wizardsgroup, are ready to eliminate those existing hurdles by working closely with them and customizing programs according to their needs,” said Reyes.
“With the deployment of Office 365, we assure that Unitra gets 99.9% uptime and highly improved work efficiency and collaboration within the team.” added Reyes.
Currently, UMMI is now taking advantage of the full benefits of Enterprise-grade email backed with the powerful security feature of Office 365. Each user is dedicated with 50GB mailbox and allows up to 25MB attachments -- beyond compare with the previous platforms that they commissioned. The team now is also accessing their emails through their smartphones and synchronizing their activity across the devices that they personally use-- thanks to Office 365’s mobile emailing, unlimited archiving, and easy synchronization features for up to five devices.
Office 365’s OneDrive for business will provide UMMI with 1TB cloud storage coupled with 10GB baseline storage and 500MB of storage per user. Its huge capacity unloads UMMI the need to acquire and maintain additional and separate servers. Since UMMI adopted cloud services, the team can easily share documents, manage and edit files, share insights – all in realtime by viewing them on desktop or mobile browsers.
Acquisition cost for software licenses is also seen to benefit UMMI as Office 365 includes up-to-date version of Microsoft’s full Office Suite, which could be also streamed on any internet-connected PC running on Windows 7 or 8 with Office on Demand.
Communication will be sophisticatingly faster and more interactive between UMMI and its principals as Office 365 includes Microsoft Lync Online. This inclusion delivers enterprise-level instant messaging, web conference hosting and multi-party HD video exchange.
Future efforts will be the deployment of Sharepoint which is seen to give UMMI the freedom to launch and maintain its own website with Sharepoint’s user-friendly interface. To top it all, utilizing Sharepoint would enable the group to create and manage team sites for easier collaboration, store and share email and documents in project-specific folders.
“We hope that Unitra would serve as an inspiration to emerging companies and organizations to seize the benefits of cloud services and embrace more reliable data management and work collaboration platforms available, such as the Office 365,” said Reyes.
“Thanks to Wizardsgroup’s familiarity on current solutions and responsiveness, we were able to realize that it’s high time for us to shift to a far more reliable platform without investing hugely on IT services,” added Capt. Villanueva of Unitra.
