July 10, 2013 Manila, Philippines — Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP), the largest corporate-led, non-profit social development foundation in the Philippines, has recently sealed agreement with Microsoft Philippines and dB Wizards allowing PBSP to attain a centralized repository of information and documents across its many offices nationwide through the technology called SharePoint.

Second row: Ulysses Nemil, Internal Audit Unit Head; Cheryl Balingit, PBSP Monitoring and Evaluation Head; Michelle Lachica, dB Wizards Sales and Marketing Director, Rafael Lopa, PBSP Executive Director; Tovia Va’aelua, Microsoft Philippines Division Lead for Office; Felix Tonog, PBSP Corporate Planning Unit Head; Danilo Sigales, PBSP MIS/IT Department Head.
For over 40 years, PBSP has been a trusted partner of corporate entities and development agencies in implementing community-enabling projects in the country. To date, the foundation has benefited over five million Filipinos and assisted over 6,400 social development projects through more than Php7.6 billion in grants and development loans.
Given its significant role in the society, PBSP needed to ensure that it can always seamlessly collaborate with its various offices and partners around the Philippines through a reliable document management system. In line with this, PBSP has chosen Microsoft’s SharePoint so that the foundation can have a central repository of their documents and a platform that can help them track progress reports. For the implementation, they entrusted dB Wizards because of their more than 10 years of expertise in providing Business Productivity Tools such as Sharepoint to various industries.
Prior to the project, PBSP had challenges with documenting projects: tracking and consolidating key performance indicators (KPIs) per project, organizing support documents: high printing cost, allotment of space for multiple cabinets, safekeeping, data security and project turnovers, among others. PBSP sought out dB Wizards to proceed with the project for document management using Microsoft Sharepoint. In this, dB Wizards took a notch up by assisting PBSP in project data entry and management by utilizing Project Server. Sharepoint and Project Server allowed PBSP to have a reliable, electronic library of data that enabled them to easily track the details of their projects – including the project owner, status from start to finish, cost analysis, project sponsors and more. Tracking progress is more efficient as their new process allows the authorized project managers and their team – and selected sponsors – to review specific project details wherever they are; in contrast to their old process which includes several email exchanges that takes too long to consolidate the details needed.
“dB Wizards’ responsiveness in terms of how to address what PBSP truly needs is something to highly note. This made the project with them highly effective and swiftly done – not to mention enabling the Project Managers and Data Management Staff with the knowledge on how to use the technology is very helpful,” Cheryl Balingit, PBSP's Monitoring and Evaluation Head shared.
Allowing organizations to efficiently manage documents, SharePoint facilitates collaboration and productivity at work. With SharePoint, organizations can store, access and share data, publish reports and business information, track contacts, display information from other databases and collaborate with teams. On top of these benefits, PBSP has leveraged on SharePoint on the account of its ease of usage, scalability and capability to support its future plans.
“Microsoft SharePoint has brought us the optimized benefits of cloud storage. This platform is familiar to use enabling us in the IT team to search and share documents more manageably to other PBSP offices in the country,” says Danilo Sigales, MIS/IT Department Head of PBSP. “With SharePoint, we are ahead with our projects as it has exhibited the capability to continuously accommodate our growing and demanding information system requirements.”
“At PBSP, we are committed to synergize partnerships from different sectors to achieve a collectively defined development goal. In relation to this, we need tools that can help us facilitate informed decision-making by allowing us to access and share crucial information anytime across our various offices and partners, and at the same time, allow us convert this information into useful insight,” shared Rafael Lopa, Executive Director of PBSP.
Issa Aviles, Microsoft Philippines Small and Medium Business and Enterprise Marketing Lead said, “Microsoft Philippines, as much as we help transform businesses through technology, also aims to empower NGOs in the country by providing them accessible and relevant productivity tools that are tailored to their requirements and plans. This is part of our sincere commitment to make a meaningful contribution, beyond business results, to the community and country that we are part of.”
Always delighted to support Microsoft in its venture to help out valued clients, Pocholo Reyes, Managing Director of dB Wizards, shared, “Deploying Microsoft Sharepoint for PBSP has been a game-changer. We are glad that realization of benefits was immediately seen by their team. We envision assisting more such industries for them to further appreciate their potential in the industry. We are glad to be a great part of this and excited to see more of the benefits this will bring to them.”
PBSP is currently working with dB Wizards towards enhancing their processes by managing projects per region, province, municipalities and barangays through consolidation, analysis and generation of reports. PBSP will also undergo trainings specifically for Project Server and Data Management.
